Social Activities

After rehearsals some choir members go for a drink. After working up an appetite a number of members like to relax after concerts with a quick Pizza, Chinese meal or something similar.

In 1998, several choir members went to Paris to perform in concerts and to see the sights. We held a Golden Anniversary dinner dance in May 1998, and celebrated our Diamond Jubilee with a dinner held on 28th February 2009. What will we do for the 75th celebration?!

Over the years we have also been busy with various fund-raising activities including a lunchtime "Piano and Organ Recital", Raffles, An Evening of Wine and Roses, Car Boot Sales, Art Evening, CD sales, Quizzes and a Sponsored Sing - not forgetting the monthly cake stalls and regular book sales.

On 12th June 2005 the choir enjoyed a Hog Roast as the Summer end of term celebration. Current and ex-choir members attended and a fun time was had by all. The 2006 Hog Roast was also a run away success as were the more recent summer social gatherings including the celebrations linked to our Diamond Jubilee year 2008-2009.

Fundraising Ceilidh

Fundraising Ceilidh
Fundraising Ceilidh - a good time was had by all!

Our fundraising Ceilidh on 15th April 2011 was a great success both in terms of the funds raised - half of which we donated to Yorkshire Cancer Research -  and a most enjoyable evening of dancing and merriment. The Dark Horse Ceilidh Band were a talented group of musicians who entertained us with lively music, melodic singing and an amusing and very patient caller - well, he would have to be patient teaching HCS members new dance steps!

A fun interlude during the evening involved the rolling of 1 coins towards a bottle of Moet and Chandon champagne - with the spinner of the coin nearest the bottle winning the prize. This popular activity saw many coins go astray but they all contributed to boosting funds.

It was great to have the opportunity to socialise with fellow choir members, family and friends and to see them in a different light - and we certainly did that! Indeed, there was often as much fun and laughter to be had sitting out and watching, as dancing.

A great time was definitely had by all - and it is rewarding to know that it was all in a good cause.

Day Trip to Cartmel Priory

Cartmel Priory

On 25 June 2011, despite the inclement weather, about 60 members of the choir had a highly successful day trip to the Lake District, culminating in a wonderful performance of 'Choral Classics for Summer' music in the beautiful setting of Cartmel Priory. Lunch at Graythwaite Manor Hotel, Grange-over-Sands, was followed by an exploration of the historic village of Cartmel and a tour of the Priory. The audience at the evening performance was the largest attendance for a visiting choir - perhaps our reputation preceded us? It was a most enjoyable day and it is hoped to have other singing away days in the future.

Future Plans

Future plans include Social Evening on 5th November 2016 with singing from Sarah Fox, Soprano; supper and hopefully some fireworks.
